GUIDES FOR THE USE OF GARLAND SCOUT RANCH

 

Please fill out a “camp use permit” and turn it in to the Norwella Council Office at least 2 weeks prior to the activity.

1.              CHECK IN WITH THE CAMP RANGER.  It’s important.

2.              Leave no fires unattended.

3.              No drinking of alcoholic beverages while on Garland Scout Ranch.  No firearms such as pistols, rifles, or shotguns shall be allowed.

4.              Build fires only in areas where fires have previously been built.

5.              Keep fires small – especially during periods of dry weather

6.              Don’t bury firewood.  Put it out completely and stack for the next campers.

7.              Camp only in designated campsites, NOT in or around shelters.

8.              Do not leave your vehicles in the campsite after unloading.  One vehicle may remain for emergencies.  All other vehicles must park in the parking lot or designated areas.

9.              All campsites will be inspected prior to your departure.

10.          Camp Ranger will pick up your garbage during campsite inspection.

11.          Do not throw trash on roads, trails, campsites, or around lakes.

12.          Do not chop on any live trees.  If you need poles, see the Camp Ranger.

13.          Be very careful in digging holes. In some areas of the ranch, there are both WATER and POWER lines underground.  Check with the Ranger prior to digging.

14.          Your campsite is your home for the weekend.  You do not want people wandering through your campsite uninvited.  Don’t wander through the campsites of others.

15.          Children are not allowed in the adult showers.  This is a BSA youth protection rule that must be enforced. 

16.          NOTHING is to leave the maintenance area unless it’s checked out by the Camp Ranger or Camp Master.  Items will be signed for in either case.  ALL items will be accounted for prior to your departure from camp.  NO TOOLS will be used without express permission of the Camp Ranger, then only after proper procedures and safety check lists have been explained in detail.

17.          Only camp vehicles will be permitted inside maintenance area unless loading or unloading heavy material or equipment.  There is a parking area on each side of the maintenance area entrance gates.

18.          No riders in the back of pick-up truck trucks or any type of vehicle without seat belts.  See the “Guide for Safe Scouting” for details. 

19.          Be in your campsite after 10:30 p.m. and hold the noise down.  There may be those who are trying to sleep.

20.          NO raiding of campsites or destruction of camp property.

21.          ALL cars and trucks should observe the 15 mph speed limit, PLEASE.

22.          CHECK OUT.  Do not leave without approval of the Camp Ranger.

 

PROCEDURE FOR THE OPERATION OF G.S.R.

 

1.             The above rules approved by the Camping Committee will apply to all of the GSR property and will be given with each camp use permit.

2.             No RV of any kind will be allowed in the summer camp area.  All RV’s will be parked in the winter camp area or the Cub Lake Camp.

3.             Year-round camping at the main GSR camp will be limited to 4 campsites.  Usage of these sites will be rotated at the discretion of the Camp Ranger.

4.             Effective January 1, 1995, all district camporees and activities will be held in the winter area or Cub Lake Camp.

5.             Effective January 1, 1995, only council activities will be held in the main camp area, i.e. Council Summer Camps, Council Camporees, Akela Family Camp, OA Fellowships, etc.

6.             Camping on the weekends and district activities will use the New Frontier area and will camp only in campsites as shown on the map and marked with the site names.
