What Makes a Trained Leader?

Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and the Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position.

Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

Troop Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training.

Venturing Crew Advisors and Assistant Advisors are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials and Venturing Leader Specific Training.

Pack, Troop, or Crew Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Youth Protection Training, and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training. 

 

Scout Leader Training Awards

Scouters may earn training awards for their contributions to Scouting.   Each award has training and tenure requirements plus additional requirements.   Tenure in a unit may not be applied concurrently towards more than one award.   A Progress Record card is used to track these requirements.   Some, but not all, requirements are listed below.  Get the full list of requirements by clicking on the name of the award.

Tiger Cub Group Organizer AwardTiger Cub Den Leader Award - One year of tenure, basic training, and other requirements.

Den Leader AwardDen Leader Award - One year of tenure, basic training, and other requirements.

Webelos Den LeaderWebelos Den Leader - One year of tenure, basic training, and other requirements

Den Leader Coach AwardDen Leader Coach Award - Two years of tenure, basic training, and other requirements

Cubmaster AwardCubmaster Award - Two years tenure, basic training, and other requirements

Cub Scouter AwardCub Scouter Award - Two years tenure, basic training, and other requirements

Scouter's Training AwardScouter's Training Award - At least two years of tenure as a registered Boy Scout leader, Basic Leader Training, and other requirements.

Scouter's KeyScouter's (Scoutmaster's) Key - Three years tenure, Basic Training, and other requirements - Commissioners, Scoutmasters, Venturing Advisors, and others

 

Norwela Council Training Award

The Norwela Council Training Award will recognize those leaders in our council that have completed Fast Start Training, Basic Training, Youth Protection Training, and any additionally required advanced training.  It is to be worn as a temporary patch, and can only be earned once each for Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, or Venturing.  All training sessions are using the new Scout Leader Training material, updated in 2001.  All requirements must be completed in the same year.  

Cub Scout Leaders can earn their Patch by:

Ø      Completing Fast Start Training

Ø      Youth Protection Training

Ø      Completing New Leader Essentials and Cub Leader specific training for their position

Ø      Attending Pow Wow / University of Scouting

Boy Scout Leaders can earn their patch by:

Ø      Completing the Fast Start Training

Ø      Youth Protection Training

Ø      Completing New Leader Essentials (for all Troop Leader positions), Scout Leader Specific Training or Completing Troop Committee Operations (for Committee Chairs, Committee members, or Charter Representatives.

Ø      Completing the new Outdoor Skills Leader Training.

Ø      Attending Pow Wow / University of Scouting

Venturing Leaders can earn their patch by:

Ø      Completing Venturing Fast Start

Ø      Youth Protection Training

Ø      Completing New Leader Essentials and Venture Leader Specific Training

Ø      Attending Pow Wow / University of Scouting or Powder horn

Currently Trained Leaders can earn their patch by:

            All currently trained and active leaders can earn their patch by:

Ø      Must be currently trained, according to district records

Ø      Participating in 50% of their district’s roundtable meeting

Ø      Serving on staff for at least one training course during the year
